Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Yields enough for four slabs of spareribs.

1/3 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup white vinegar; more to taste
2 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbs. prepared yellow mustard
1 Tbs. chili powder or seasoning
1-1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 tsp. cayenne
1/8 tsp. ground mace
2 Tbs. honey
2 cups tomato ketchup

In a large saucepan, combine all the ingredients. Heat over medium, stirring well to mix and dissolve the spices. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
